Marianne in Paris

by JHSEsq on July 2, 2008

We thought we would give you a very upbeat post to check out today before we take a break for the Fourth of July weekend here in the states. But to do that, we must cross the Atlantic or as they say in Europe, “The Pond”. We have honored posts before that are about expatriates living in another country. This blog Marianne In Paris is another example. Marianne is from Great Britain. The only difference today is that the post that has won our award is not at all about life in Paris. It is about family and how we touch each other’s lives.

Her post of June 20, 2008 is titled 96 Candles. Marianne’s grandmother recently hit that milestone. This is the story of Marianne returning to her Grandmother’s home for the festivities that was in the same house Marianne grew up in. For the party she even stayed in her old attic bedroom.

Her post is a love letter to her Grandmother Dashwood, “She likes to talk about Australia and her youth as a dancer in Melbourne, her move to London and her time during the war, and of course tales of glamorous dinners and balls accompanied by one of her three previous husbands. (She has been divorced three times, but still wears all three engagement and wedding rings stacked high on her ring finger). Granny is still the most glamourous member of our family: she famously dined at the Ritz the evening after she gave birth to my mother, she has worn high heels every day for 80 years, and she has yet to let her blonde hair go white, still tinting at the age of 96.”

The Rising Blogger is pleased to award Marianne our Post of the Day! It is a great read by an outstanding storyteller. We hope you enjoy your visit with Grandmother Dashwood as much as we did.

Great post. Made me think of my own mom, who is 91.
