Nannie Goats in Panties

by JHSEsq

I sit at my little desk, in my little office, in the biggest little city in the country – Sacramento, not finding much new here in the day-to-day. Things move kind of slow here – like important legislation, unless it’s that crazy, wacky legislation we seem to have a penchant for that will never see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signature anyway. Those things move really quickly, without much fanfare, like they are trying to sneak them in so no one will notice – stuff like, “All children under the age of 18 must be completely wrapped in inflated intertubes while riding in the car for safety,” – you know, stuff like that.

This morning, I clicked on the “Sacramento Top 25 Websites….Kinda,” which is a great resource for Sacramento area websites. A new name intrigued me. Hmm, potential excitement. I better click. Nanny Goats in Panties is written by a fellow mid-lifer living in Sacramento. She’s pretty new at the blogging game. I’ll just call her Nanny.

Mother’s Day just passed us by and millions of bloggers took time out to recognize Mom for all she was and all she wasn’t, whether she is still with us or not. Nanny had her own story—one wrapped in the greater story of remembering that is both sentimental and humorous. It’s dripping with regret for the premature loss of friendship, but takes time to honor the time they had together.

Nanny makes it clear that her mom wasn’t known for giving good advice – or advice of any kind – at least until the fateful day, long ago. But, advice she gave, in between crocheting hideous trauma-inducing attire for Nanny. Why Nanny took that advice that day is somewhat a mystery to me even now. Ouch. Oh my gosh!!! I’m so honored! I don’t know what to say. I didn’t have a speech prepared or anything because I was so sure someone else would win. Oh. Ok. First I’d like to thank my mother, for without her, there never would have been a post about Mother’s Day. There never would have been a “Nanny Goats In Panties”, for that matter. And I’d like to thank the UPS man, and the academy, and The Rising Blogger, and Sacramento’s Top 25 website, and to prevent getting all Hillary Swanky, I must thank my husband, ’cause he’s all that. And God. I’d like to thank God. And I would like to say a little something about a cause that is near and dear to my heart { cue exit music and cut to commercial }

BRAVA!
(standing ovation! – booing in the background as Nanny is led offstage by the stick-figure model Miss Rising Blogger)

You go girl! Whanhhahahaha! You are the funniest thing!(disgruntled rustling and murmuring in the audience, as a nervous Billy Crystal clears his throat, makes a lame joke and tries to move on).

Lori always seems to find very good posts to award. Nanny, this is right up there with some of our best awarded posts at The Rising Blogger. Great work! And well done, Lori…
