I'm still amazed that I found you by googling 'gomi' and 'Japan!' After reading your post, I was thrilled to have found someone else who thought that the Japanese system was a good one, and to have written about it so clearly.

In Abiko, we had to label our various trash bags. I'll never forget that one woman really did a super job with hers, gorgeous calligraphic strokes. I was so ashamed of my poor penmanship on our plastic trash bags...

Wow...thank you very much for your kind words! The blog started out as letters home to my family. The "to:" line kept growing, until it became easier just to post my letters (and photos!) online. I never thought I'd have readers other than a few friends and family members.

Thanks for seeking me out, and for your award! Now I have to check out your other winners -- what a great way to find new blogs to read! I have to think about who to nominate, as you've already awarded my favorite blog, Resident Alien.
