Circle Jerk at the Square Dance

by JHSEsq on April 2, 2008

I was raised in Iowa. I left there, at the ripe old age of 17 never to return. But, for some reason, my search for good blog posts today led me in the direction of Iowa. There had to be funny or brilliantly insightful blogs written by Iowans, for Iowans, right?
Then, I stumbled upon Iowablogs.net, a directory of Iowa blogs. Amazing. Unfortunately, I found that the largest percentage of them were about politics. Yawn. Those Iowans, they are political animals. And, everyone has a strong opinion – take the entire three months leading up to the Iowa Presidential Caucus for example—it’s all you heard—what Iowans thought of the candidates. But, I digress.
Finally, I stumbled upon a blog with an intriguing name: Circle Jerk At The Square Dance. It’s political, but in a good, sick, warped, satiric kind of way. The guy, Brando, is not even an Iowan, he’s from Marquette, Michigan.
April 1st’s Top Ten Tuesday: What April Fool’s Day Jokes Did We Play? is very funny.
Take #8: Replace the Water in Waterboarding with Palmolive. I laughed. I’m sorry, I admit it. He’s irreverent and sarcastic. He’s bold and has few boundaries around the whole taste issue. He’s not an Iowan, but I can forgive him that.
I admit, I peeked back in time to his other Top Ten Tuesday features and they are just as funny. And, as sure as the corn needs to be knee high by the 4th of July, I needed the laugh.

For this reason, Circle Jerk at the Square Dance’s April 1st, 2008 entry is The Rising Blogger’s Post of the Day.

Hey folks, thanks for the award and the very nice write up on the post and the blog. Glad you liked it.

I am listed on the Iowa blog list because I lived in Iowa City for the last six years and started the blog while I was there. I suppose once an Iowan, always an Iowan.

I am not one for posting buttons and other graphics on the blog — I post for the laughs, not the accolades. I’m a bit like Ty Webb in Caddyshack in that respect. But I dig The Rising Blogger and will definitely blogroll you.

And I love that square dancing album cover!

Thanks again.
