Full Throttle and F**k It

by JHSEsq

When it comes time for me to write a review for The Rising Blogger, I often check to see if a reader or past winner nominated a post. I’d love to say it is because that I want to be sure that Judd keeps up with nominations in our queue, but it is generally because I can be lazy. Judd generally gives me the nominations to deal with because I write the most reviews.

So when I read a nominated post I have no idea what to expect. I won’t write a review if the post sucks. But usually the nominations range from good to extremely great. Today’s post is in that “extremely great” category. Steve Malley is a writer and an artist who is from New Zealand. I assume the drawing of him on this page is a self portrait. I am not qualified to judge art. I am qualified to judge writing, and Steve is excellent. The title of the post is Wells Filled and Otherwise. In it he attempts to explain what a writer means by “filling the well” or “draining it”.

Some posts drip with insight and this is one of them. Steve writes, “The idea seems to be that creativity is a cool liquid, of which we drink deeply. Sometimes, a project can leave us feeling drained. Times like that, we need to stop drinking and let others’ waters replenish our own. At least, I think that’s the idea. It’s one of those things folks tend to talk about as though everyone else already knows. I’ve had to pick the metaphor up on the run.”

That’s just the beginning. You will have to go to the blog Full Throttle and F**K It to learn the rest of Steve’s ideas. I know you will really like Steve’s blog and his post from January 16, 2008 that is our Post of the Day.

Wow, thanks!

Just for the record, I’m an expat Yank living in New Zealand, not a native, and that is indeed a picture of me.

Glad y’all liked the post…
