Just when I think I can’t possibly put another blog on my blogroll, one comes along that tells me I’m just going to have to make time. Storytellers, really outstanding ones, are a rare commodity in the blog world. It’s like finding a treasure – it also tells me that the publishing world is missing out every day.
Just Eat Your Cupcake is such a blog. Maria, who lives in Omaha, Nebraska (where I myself lived at two different points in my life) has an exceptional way of making her everyday experiences come to life through the people she knows—whether it’s her neighbor, her best friend, or her partner. Oh, and every time she uses the phrase, “Boy, howdy,” I’m teleported back to the favorite place I ever lived (I know, go figure).
Over the course of the past two weeks, I made note of the fact that many bloggers found time to reflect about the events of their lives to date and to describe their hopes and dreams for the future. Well, it’s that time of year, isn’t it? This time, I read a moving and powerful story of a woman’s life marked by bringing her bedsheets to life. Yes, bedsheets. Integrating the new and the old. The high thread count and the lower threadcount.
Maria makes me laugh, makes me feel whimsical, reminds me to be grateful, and has occasionally brought a tear to my eye. She grouses about a spouse whom she clearly loves beyond measure and doesn’t have any problem with being a little cranky—to which I can totally relate, but clearly counts her blessings daily.
This is one of the best blogs I’ve ever read. I never miss it. I hope you will enjoy today’s The Rising Blogger post of the day, If Loving Bed Linens Is Wrong, I Don’t Want to Be Right…
Review written by LORI HAHN.
(Editor’s note: With Lori’s review today Maria becomes our first two time winner. Congratulations! Her first winning post was on 10.01.07… Judd C.)

Well…um…boy howdy? This is a wonderful, wonderful gift. And to have such lovely words written by such an exceptional blogger, Lori…well, yeah, that is pretty damn fine and cool and as we say in Nebraska: sumpin, sumpin!
Thank you.
I would never have thought of using sheets in this both metaphorical and real way. It certainly is a great post and worthy of recognition.
Congrats Maria!! Don’t know they were able to choose among your many wonderful posts. For those unfamiliar with you blog, I’d also recommend your Jan 4th entry, “Harriet’s Sweater.”
