It is a fact that almost every post on the blogosphere that hits the eye, is linked in some way to the season. You can’t get away from it. Or so you might think. Enter Razored Zen.
Now a man, Charles Gramlich, who dreams Christmas night about dark age battles is definitely a man with a difference. And a man who remembers details so vividly. This dream is almost a vision, a clip from a Conan film, or more. The author seems to see it as almost a past life memory, or some sort of omen. The sense of a Viking code is prevalent, we feel he feels it, that he is somehow IN this more primitive world, where Valhalla calls the warriors and Hel awaits those who die of old age.
What is conveyed admirably is the emotion of the old warrior described. And when the enemy come, there is none of the garbled description that usually accompanies action scenes. It is sharp, a little graphic and to the point. Cinematic is a good way to describe it. I’m not sure why, but I could see the shine on the axes, the mud on the boots, it’s that sort of post. Not because of the use of aplethora of descriptive words, but because of the intensity of the emotion conveyed.
It is a dream of a death in a culture that is not ours. At first glance it may seem like a tale of battle, but it is not. It is about finding meaning in life. Perhaps ours is not a culture that glorifies death through violence in the war Razored Zen dreams of and shares with us here, but is it not a culture in which we all need meaning in our lives much as this old warrior did?
Is it not perhaps, a comment on our desires to find life meaning in things that also carry our own destruction? I wish I had dreams as colourful as Razored Zen. But since don’t, I’m glad he shares them with us.

I was thrilled to get this award. Thanks very much. Not all my dreams are this tight and detailed but I have a fair number of them and am very appreciative when they visit me.
I think your interpretation of the imagery in the dream is spot on. I’d like to think it was a past life memory, but I’m fairly skeptical of reincarnation. Still, it was cool.
I’ve put a link to “Rising Blogger” on my own blog site.
Thanks again.
Well done, Charles. Once again your talent floats to the top.
