Living in Egypt

by JHSEsq

Blogs that are written by an author living abroad in a foreign land are of particular interest to us. In the blog Living in Egypt our author Maryanne Stroud and her family have moved from Toronto to live on a farm in the Middle East, “Life isn’t only made up of political problems. Most of us spend more time concerned with our families, friends, and neighbours than with the latest actions of whatever government we may have inflicted upon us. Our daily lives are our commonality.”

The nominated post is from November 7, 2007 and is titled A Small Miracle. It is about a birth on the farm by a horse named Shabboura, “Foaling usually isn’t a long drawn out process. For wild horses, it couldn’t be because the mare and foal are at extreme risk during birth. True to form, it was only about 30 minutes from the first sign that she was having labour pains (puzzled looks at her stomach and flanks along with some sweating) to seeing the nose and front feet of the foal start to emerge.” But the real problem is that the foal’s mother is ill. To get the rest of this story, The Rising Blogger recommends you read our Post of the Day!

M.A. provides brilliant insight into life in and around Cairo. I love her writing style and admire her ability to capture daily life so intimately.
