Robert Bourne describes himself as a gritty old Canadian redneck truck driver. His blog is called Observations from the Back 40. In his very moving post entitled Thanksgiving is 700 Miles he recounts a Thanksgiving from years gone by and gives you a glimpse into the life of a truck driver. He begins, “Years ago I wheeled into an old Truckstop late one Thanksgiving night…I had started early that morning pushing to get my 700 miles in…After I parked I sat for a minute and let myself unwind…Slipping out of the seat I walked slightly bent from fatigue…My mind hoping that they had a Thanksgiving Special and a young waitress with a pretty smile to give me a lift.…The dining room only had a few Road Dogs scattered at tables..They had that road weary look etched their faces much like mine…A bright smile brought me my dinner and as I ate I glanced out the window at the lights of the town just down the road…I wondered if they knew what a Road Dog did.…“
He concludes with “Thanks on Thanksgiving to all the Road dogs out there GodSpeed and Be safe…” We hope he had a great Thanksgiving as well, and now he has won The Rising Blogger’s Post of the Day!

This crusty ol’ redneck is one of my favorite bloggers. And don’t let him fool ya – he’s a great big ol’ teddy bear with a gift for storytelling. Congratulations Crusty!

I first saw writing by Robert on his nascar blog. His style was fresh and unique, with a personality that differed from other bland statistical topic blogs. I knew when he started the “Back 40″ that the format of story telling would be his strong suit. Congratulations to my truck driving pal!
Robert Rocks. I’m still waiting on his book!
