A former winner nominated today’s winning post at The Rising Blogger. He says of his nomination of the author Dixiechick, “Please consider this post by my friend Dixie about her son, who is about to graduate from Marine Corps boot camp. She pours all a mother’s pride and fear and emotion into some of the most wonderful words I’ve ever read.” We cannot add much to that, but what we appreciated the most in the blog Dixie’s Heart and Soul was the candor this mother of a son about to graduate from the Marine boot camp. She doesn’t shy away from her initial reaction that maybe the military was not the right place for her son Matt. She speaks of Matt’s other options. In the post from October 16, 2007 Just a Few of My Thoughts she states, “During these 13 weeks, I also have gone through a transformation, even if it was involuntary. I have learned I do not have control over all my son chooses in life. I have learned that I will have to step back and let him soar. I have learned I can hide my fear well, and that there is no end to the pride I can feel. I have learned that the future is God’s, and though I may not always understand it, I accept it.” Congratulations Dixiechick! You have written our Post of the Day!
