She writes, “I was never extremely close to either one of my par­ents — not the way I would have liked to have been or the way I thought it should have been. There are a vari­ety of rea­sons that don’t really mat­ter now. How­ever, for about a year after I had my first child, my mom and I shared a very spe­cial bond.
