Sometimes we read a terrific post and wonder why the author is not a professional writer. Today was a bit different. A terrific post was nominated from the blog Salut!. In this case however, the writer IS a professional writer. The blog is described, “Salut! is written by Colin Randall, staff correspondent for The Daily Telegraph, Oct 1977 — Sept 2006. He worked as a reporter based in South West England/South Wales, London and finally Paris. Married to Joëlle; two daughters, Christelle (“who has a more glamorous job in media than her dad” to quote a friend) and Nathalie (“who plays football better than him” to quote same friend).” The post is from September 5, 2007, La Rentrée Arrives. And There’s No Bar to its Stupidité, and it is about a pub in France that is being forced to close its doors because the front door is a couple of meters closer to a church than it should be. The Rising Blogger won’t spoil Colin’s terrific post, but we know you’ll enjoy it. Colin, you’ve written our Post of the Day!Review written by BUD WEISER.

Thanks for the unexpected honour. As I have said before, the true pros in blogging are the people who started it: the so-called amateurs. I have just been playing catch-up. Also, anyone who visits the site now will notice that the headline and posting have changed slightly (this happens when I belatedly spot typos or howlers, or need or want to alter something). I hope that is not at odds with the spirit of blogging. Just before I read the e-mail informing me of this award, I had been looking at another blog, The Other Side of Paris, and specifically at this excellent post:

The interest to declare is that it was written by a friend, and we were colleagues for some years at the place he is writing about. But I wouldn’t nominate the post if I didn’t think it deserved it.
THe Other Side of Paris is a great choice, infact they are a previous winner (from June 16, 2007). They are eligible to win again, but currently we are still “spreading the wealth”. Thanks Colin! You are a worthy addition to our Award.
