Today The Rising Blogger Post of the Day award is a delightful and daring read. “So What’s the Deal With the Flute, Anyway?” posted March 3, 2007 by Colloquium is well-written and insightful. The author is on her way to Carnegie Hall to play the flute. It is no ordinary trip for this attorney/writer and her best friend of thirty years. The blog is also named Colloquium.
“My parents survived the Depression,” she explains.
“They lived in fear of losing everything and returning to their meager beginnings — and that fear drove their decision-making.” One of those decisions drove a little girl’s dream of playing the flute into the background of life’s bare necessities, only to emerge again nearly forty years later with a clearer understanding of her parent’s circumstances. Read how her grown-up discoveries settled a score which began long ago and ended with a choice to follow her dream. This tender accounting of a daughter’s love for her parents and the deep appreciation she gained after they were gone is a tribute to a lifelong selfless sacrifice. Would you have done the same?

And about that flute. You’re invited to watch the flautist perform via video at the end of this outstanding post. It is well worth a listen. Congratulations, Colloquium. The Rising Blogger thinks your music says it all.
